remnants of you, 2016
And this is the way we say goodbye…
And this is the way it hurts,
And the way we cope,
And the way we remember each other through false memories.
And this is the way we miss each other and who we used to be,
And the way we forget that we are two different people now,
And the way we think that it doesn’t matter.
Because “you are who you are when you are with me.”
And this is the way you linger,
And this is the way you remain,
And this is the way I can feel you…
Through these remnants of you.
YOU NO LONGER EXIST HERE,
AND NEITHER DO I.
artist statement
Remnants of You explores the intimate landscape of grief and the delicate process of navigating through the remnants of a lost relationship.
Through poetry and photography, this series serves as an expression of mourning and the after effects of loss–how objects and spaces become melancholic reminders of experiences once shared and how their absence leaves us with unyielding pain.
Images were created using a Canon A-1 35mm camera on Ilford HP5 Plus and printed on 8” x 10” Ilford Multigrade FB Glossy paper.
